Lazyweb 🤝 A16z Speedrun
It's time to grow (:
Today, we’re announcing that Lazyweb has joined A16z Speedrun SR007.
We loved the guys over at Speedrun. Ten minutes into our first call, we knew we wanted to work together. A few intense days of calls and background checks later, we virtually shook hands :)
Product-led growth is unintuitive, yet it’s more science than art.
The two tricks are:
Have low ego, a sense of urgency, and an unhealthy amount of curiosity
Pay close attention to how the best growth teams solve structurally similar problems across tangential domains
You can get pretty far by going all in on those.
A food delivery app has a lot to learn from ecommerce, if the most important metric for its growth is average order value.
A16z itself is an example of that: they took the Hollywood talent playbook and applied it to venture.
During my time at Duolingo, I obsessed over the experiments shipped by the top 200 grossing apps in the App Store. I learned what those apps were good at, where they pushed the limits, and which ideas might be relevant to us.
That obsessive culture of learning from the best out there worked pretty well for me in particular and us in general.
But it is impossible for one person to use thousands of apps, track what is changing, and turn it into something useful. And what worked five years ago likely will not work today. That is the beauty and curse of growth work.
Understandably, today the entire industry is converging on the 3-4-5 growth patterns that were made public and lost their novelty many years ago (e.g. Timeline in Paywalls, referral programs inspired by Dropbox from 10 years ago, etc.).
Lazyweb is our attempt to make today’s growth knowledge accessible where you do all your work — an MCP tool your AI agent can tap into to run product growth for you.
(Or, for a more managed, hands-off solution, you can reach out to us here.)
Growth is beautiful because it compounds. Here’s a fun little trivia question:
Q: How much does a 10% increase in conversion, compounded monthly, yield over 12 months?
A: 5x
Growth compounds, but only if you stop guessing. That’s what Lazyweb is all about: less guesswork, faster compounding.
Ciao,
